Tempted, Tested, True logo

Behind the Book

The Research

Current research by the Center for Bible Engagement indicates that more than 85 percent of American Christians describe themselves as “defeated by temptation and life-controlling problems”—everything from sexual addiction and pornography to immoral behaviors such as lying, cheating, stealing, gossip, lust, greed, and jealousy.

As a result, many have fallen into a toxic, downward spiral: (1) they struggle alone, (2) they neglect the very things that can help them break free—prayer, Bible reading, true community—and (3) they literally give up spiritually, forgetting that God isn’t shocked by our weaknesses. In fact, He doesn’t stop loving us when we fail, and He never gives up on any of us. His heart actually breaks when sin causes us to run from Him instead of to Him. Yet the Bible gives us the answer: Let Jesus deal with our temptation … minute by minute, hour by hour.
